A story from What We Carry
The Plate I Carried
I needed a large titanium plate removed from my arm. It was causing severe pain and discomfort, but I postponed the removal for two years because I was in the FSP program. I literally continued to live with it, taking Panadol four times a day just to get some relief.
I passed my exams, and I wanted the plate removed as soon as possible after my CCE exam. But the effort that went into getting leave approved, and all the administrative things that came with it, literally broke me mentally.
Carrying something of your own? It doesn't have to be polished. A few honest sentences is enough.
